Yas, And! Comedy: March!

Yas, And! Presents MARCH! Review - Capturing Womanhood in All Its Glory

TLDR: Yas, And! Comedy presents their comedy show March! during Women’s History Month to celebrate and find the laughter in being a woman. Taking pieces from all kinds of experience, the improv group has created a hilarious hour-long sketch show that never lets their pace drop for a second.

Did You Put Regular Milk in Your Latte??

I saw Goodie Proctor ordering a latte with REGULAR milk and not OAT milk!

The cries and gasps come in waves from the jury in this courtroom. But wait, what kind of courtroom is trying a woman for the type of milk she puts in her coffee??. Enter into the world of March! a new sketch comedy show playing with an all woman and non-binary cast during the month of March for, you guessed it, Women’s History Month! So here in Queer Court, we’re hearing evidence against Goodie that suggests she’s not as queer as she says she is.

But there’s so much more to laugh about! We’re talking periods, furries, and American Girl dolls. There’s commentary on the mystery of women’s health. A gameshow where boomer mothers have to guess what’s wrong with a picture. And how about a shipping support group? And no, we’re not talking about transporting goods on boats.

Their sketches are clever as they always tell a full story, beginning to end, and wrap up with that surprise joke or quippy one liner. We’re laughing as they cut to black and switch to the next sketch. They keep up the pace to make sure we’re still laughing and applauding by the time the lights come back up for the next one.

How I Love Being A Insert Gender Descriptor Here

Ever wish you could capture the experience of being a woman, bottle it up, and let it out on stage for all the world to see? That’s what Yas, And!’s new production of March! feels like. They have written a show taking situations, feelings, and relationships drawing inspiration from people from all different perspectives.

And the definition of woman here is not meant to be just cis-het women. March! includes people who identify as a woman or those who just have had these experiences - cis, non-binary, trans, queer, straight, gay. They also acknowledge the shortcomings of feminism and also toss in reminders to vote for good measure as well. All of that while also being funny? That was going to be a tall ask for any hour long comedy show about women, but also very on brand for anyone who is not a cis-het white man in comedy.

The After Party Thoughts

A lot of thought and consideration went into writing this show and yet the women onstage make every single sketch and joke seem effortless. It captures these expanded viewpoints in comedy. March! is as smart as it is hilarious and is the perfect bite-size show during your week. For those looking for a show that captures these unique experiences, makes them funny, with a dash of protest to top it all off, March! would be a good fit for you.
